As mentioned above, this is an essential oil that is distilled together with camphor when camphor trees and other materials are steam distilled. Since a large amount of camphor particles (about 50%) are suspended in it, when it is separated it is obtained as a yellowish brown liquid with a specific gravity of 0.95 to 0.995. This liquid is then fractionally distilled into white oil (distilled at 160 to 185°C), red oil (210 to 215°C), and indigo oil (220 to 300°C).
