Japanese: ムラサキケマン - むらさきけまん

A biennial plant of the Papaveraceae (APG classification: Papaveraceae). It grows to 20-40cm tall and is soft throughout. The leaves are twice tripinnate and compound. The leaflets are wedge-shaped and notched. In April and May, it produces racemes and produces numerous purple flowers measuring 1.3-2cm in length. It has two sepals and four petals, one of the outer two with a spur. It has six stamens, one pistil, and a single chambered ovary. The capsule is lanceolate and contains small black seeds. It is commonly found growing in thickets in forests and is distributed throughout Japan, China, and Taiwan.

ケシ科（APG分類：ケシ科）の越年草。高さ20～40センチメートルで、全体が柔らかい。葉は2回3出羽状複葉。小葉はくさび形で欠刻する。4～5月、総状花序をつくり、長さ1.3～2センチメートルの紫色花を多数開く。萼片(がくへん)は2枚、花弁は4枚で外側の2枚のうちの一方に距(きょ)がある。雄しべは6本、雌しべは1本、子房は1室。蒴果(さくか)は披針(ひしん)形で、中に黒色の小さな種子がある。林の藪(やぶ)などにごく普通に生え、日本、および中国、台湾に分布する。
