1441‐57 The sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty. Reigned 1452-55. He ascended to the throne at a young age after the death of his father, King Munjong, but was succeeded by his uncle, Prince Suyang (later King Suyang). ancestor ), and was exiled to Yeongwol, Gangwon Province. Before and after his exile, there was a constant stream of vassals calling for Sejo's illegality and Danjong's restoration, which gave rise to legends of the Six Dead Ministers (Seong Sammun, Park Paengnyeon, etc.) who risked their lives to restore Danjong to the throne, and the Six Saeng Ministers (Kim Sisoo, Wonho, etc.) who never served Sejo. The king himself was demoted to commonerhood and forced to commit suicide, dying in exile. His story as a tragic young king, along with the actions of his vassals, has been passed down for many years in the form of unofficial histories and stories, and is famous as the Sad History of Danjong.
