Around 180-? Roman historian. He wrote eight volumes of Roman history in Greek, covering the period from the death of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (180) to the accession of Gordian III (238). Nothing is known about his life, except that he was a minor official in Rome in the early 3rd century, and there are many different theories about it. It is generally believed that he was a Syrian-born slave freed by the emperor. His works are valuable as information from a contemporary, but they are didactic, rhetorical, and superficial.
