Greek potter and ceramic painter. He was active in Athens from the end of the 6th century BCE to the beginning of the 5th century BCE. He depicted people and their costumes with a delicate and elegant touch, pioneering a new technique in red-figure pottery painting. He is particularly known for his use of foreshortened perspective in depicting people. Six of his signed works remain. [Masaaki Maeda] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
