Jakarta is the outer port of the capital city of Indonesia, located in the west of Java. It faces the Java Sea and is located about 10km east of Jakarta's old town. It was completed at the end of the 19th century as part of modern port construction work in conjunction with the development of Batavia (now Jakarta), and has four piers and a water depth of 12m, playing a major role in domestic and international traffic and commerce. The port is connected to Jakarta city by national highways and electrified railways, and new entertainment and recreational facilities have been developed along the coast along these routes.
