A Chinese scholar of the Tang Dynasty. His pen name was Shuzuo. He was born in Guanzhong (Shaanxi Province). At the end of the Tianbao era (742-755), he was a guest in Jiangnan when the An Lushan Rebellion broke out and he was unable to return to his hometown, so he served in this area. He retired from his post as the head clerk of Danyang County in Jianzhou and settled in Danyang. He was said to have lived comfortably in a small alley and was content with simple food. Around 761 (Shangyuan 2), he began to organize his long-standing critical research on the three traditions of the Spring and Autumn Annals, and finished this work in 770 (Dali 5). He changed his previous attitude of interpreting the Spring and Autumn Annals based on either the Gongyang Zhuan, the Guliang Zhuan, or the Zuo Zhuan, and instead compared the interpretations of the three traditions side by side, and when he could not find a reasonable interpretation, he would make his own interpretation.

中国，唐代の経学者。字は叔佐。関中(陝西省)出身。天宝(742‐755)の末，江南に客となっていたとき，安史の乱が勃発し郷里に帰ることができなくなったので，この地で仕官した。澗州丹陽県主簿を最後に官を退き，丹陽に居を定めた。平生，陋巷の狭い住居に安住し粗食に満足していたという。761年(上元2)ころから年来の《春秋》三伝の批判的研究を整理し始め，770年(大暦5)，その業を卒（お）えたという。彼はそれまでの，《春秋》を《公羊（くよう）伝》《穀梁伝》《左氏伝》のいずれかによって解釈するという態度を改め，三伝の解釈を並列的に比較検討し，合理的な解釈が得られないときはみずから独自の解釈を下すという態度をとった。
