This drug makes people dislike alcohol, and is also called an alcohol aversion drug. If this drug is administered beforehand, the patient's reaction to alcohol becomes abnormal, causing them to suffer from unpleasant symptoms, strengthening the chronic alcoholic's desire to quit drinking. One example is disulfiram (brand name Antabous). A Danish doctor was researching the effectiveness of disulfiram as an anthelmintic when he took it and attended a cocktail party, where he developed severe symptoms of alcohol poisoning, and discovered that it works as a withdrawal drug.
