Subtractive color photography is a method proposed and patented by the Frenchman Louis Ducos du Hauron (1837-1920) in 1869 based on his experiments with subtractive color mixing. It reproduces the color image of a subject by mixing the three primary colors of subtractive color mixing, cyan, magenta, and yellow, in appropriate proportions.
