Cobalt is a mineral that contains cobalt as one of its main components. Cobalt ore is not currently produced in Japan. The main production area is the Copper Belt, which stretches from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Zambia in Africa. In the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the north, cobalt is present in an amount of 1/30 of the copper, while in Zambia in the south, it is present in the form of thiospinel such as linnaeite Co ₃ S ₄ and carrollite (Co,Cu) ₃ S ₄ , with about 1/30 of the copper content. Cobalt is combined with arsenic to produce cobaltite (Co,Fe)AsS and skutterudite (also called scobaltite) (Co,Ni)As ₃ , which are found in silver-cobalt veins (Norway, Sweden, Germany, Canada, etc.).

コバルトを主成分の一つとして含む鉱物をいう。コバルトの鉱石は，現在日本からは産出していない。主要産地はアフリカのコンゴ民主共和国からザンビアにまたがるコッパー･ベルトである。北のコンゴ民主共和国では銅の1/30，南のザンビアでは1/300程度のコバルトをリンネ鉱linnaeite Co₃S₄，カロライトcarrollite (Co,Cu)₃S₄などのチオスピネルとして含んでいる。コバルトはヒ素と結合して，輝コバルト鉱(Co,Fe)AsS，スクテルード鉱skutterudite(方コバルト鉱ともいう)(Co,Ni)As₃として銀‐コバルト鉱脈中に産出する(ノルウェー，スウェーデン，ドイツ，カナダなど)。
