1619‐92 French writer. Born in La Rochelle as the son of a wealthy Protestant financier, he moved with his family to Bordeaux and then to Paris in 1634, where he died. In 1638, he traveled to Rome with the future Cardinal de Re and met the poet Boiteur, and probably through his introduction he became a regular at the salon of the famous Marquise de Rambouillet. He also made friends with many writers, including La Fontaine and Furtiere, and frequented various salons. Based on the stories he had seen and heard during this time, he began writing a collection of short biographies, mainly about people of high society, in 1657, and is said to have been almost completed two years later, but the manuscript remained buried for a long time and was first published between 1833 and 1835. 1619‐92 フランスの文人。
