Spot trading - Genbutsu torihiki

Goods that are already in existence at the time of a sales transaction are called spot goods, and the buying and selling of spot goods is called spot trading. Spot trading can be immediate delivery, direct delivery, or near-term delivery. Immediate delivery is a method in which goods are delivered almost immediately after the sales contract is signed, and accounts for the majority of retail transactions. Direct delivery is a method in which goods are delivered within two to three days after the sales contract is signed, and is common in wholesale transactions where time is required for product selection and transportation. Methods that require even more time than this are called near-term delivery.

売買取引の際すでに実在している商品を現物といい、現物の売買を現物取引という。現物取引には、即時渡し、直渡(じきわた)し、近日渡しがある。即時渡しは、売買契約とほぼ同時に商品を受渡しする方法で、小売取引の大部分はこれによる。直渡しは、売買契約後、2、3日中に受渡しするもので、品揃(しなぞろ)えや運送に日時を要する卸売取引に多い。これよりさらに日時を要するものを近日渡しという。
