Kodak is the world's largest American manufacturer of photographic equipment (film, cameras, etc.). It also produces synthetic fibers, plastics, and industrial chemicals as a chemical manufacturer. Its headquarters are in Rochester, New York. It began as a dry plate and film manufacturing company started by G. Eastman as a private business in 1880. In 1888, it released the first Kodak camera (a portable camera), and in 1898, it released the bellows-type folding Kodak camera, which was the first step toward modern cameras. During this time, Eastman Kodak Company was established in 1892.

アメリカにある世界最大の写真用品(フィルム，カメラなど)メーカー。また，化学メーカーとして合成繊維，プラスチック，工業用薬品なども製造している。本社ニューヨーク州ロチェスター。1880年にG.イーストマンが個人経営で始めた乾板･フィルム製造会社が始まりである。88年にコダック･カメラ第1号機(携帯用カメラ)を発売，98年には近代カメラの第一歩となった蛇腹式折りたたみコダック･カメラを発売した。この間1892年イーストマン･コダック社を設立。
