Fine chemicals are chemical industry products that are backed by unique technology, have a high degree of processing, and therefore have high added value. They are also called precision chemical products. Specifically, they refer to pharmaceuticals, pesticides, synthetic dyes, organic pigments, paints, fragrances, cosmetics, adhesives, photographic materials, soaps, synthetic detergents, surfactants, and cyclic intermediates. The chemistry that researches and develops this field is called fine chemistry. A characteristic of fine chemicals is that the market size for these products is not large, ranging from several hundred million to 30 billion yen per item, so new entrants tend to cause oversupply, and there are many varieties, each of which has a different manufacturing method.
