Anchor beetle

A species of the family Cicindelidae in the order Coleoptera. Body length is 12-15mm. A southern species, its distribution in Japan is at its northern limit. It inhabits natural coastlines that connect to sand dunes. There are only a few known habitats. Furthermore, its habitat is threatened by tourism development and seawalls. 鞘翅(しょうし)目ハンミョウ科の１種。体長12〜15mm。南方系の種で，日本の分布はその北限にあたる。砂丘につながる自然海岸に生息する。既知の産地は数ヵ所を数えるにすぎない。また生息環境は，観光開発，護岸堤防などによって生存が脅かされている。絶滅危惧IB類（環境省第４次レッドリスト）。
