〘名〙① 役人。官人。官員。※続日本紀‐天平宝字三年(759)六月丙辰「官吏不レ行、此何以教二士民一」※島崎金次郎宛大田南畝書簡‐享和元年(1801)五月二五日「官吏にて一向役所などより不申来候もおかしく候き」 〔史記‐始皇本紀〕② 旧憲法下で、国家に対し、忠順に無定量の勤務に服するために、国家から特に選任されたもの。その任命権は天皇の大権に属していた。現在では国家公務員とほぼ同じ意で使われる。※官吏服務紀律(明治二〇年)(1887)一条「凡そ官吏は天皇陛下及天皇陛下の政府に対し忠順勤勉を主とし法律命令に従ひ各其職務を尽すべし」
