Tabun man

Japanese: タブーン人 - たぶーんじん（英語表記）Tabun man

The name given to an archaic human discovered in the Mount Carmel cave near the port of Haifa in Israel. The skeletons are from two bodies, one a complete skeleton of an adult female (Taboon I) and the other a mandible of an adult male (Taboon II), both of which were found in the Levallois-Mousterian culture and are estimated to be 39,000 years old. On the other hand, the Shour people discovered in the Shour cave, located close to this cave, are also of the Levallois-Mousterian culture but are considered to be a more recent archaic human, and the relationship between the two has been debated since their discovery.

イスラエルのハイファ港に近いカルメル山洞窟から発見された旧人の呼称。人骨は2体分で，1体は成人女性の全身骨格(タブーンI)，他の1体は成人男性の下顎骨(タブーンII)で，ともにルバロア，ムスティエ文化層から発見され，3万9000年前のものと推定される。一方，この洞窟と至近の距離にあるスフール洞窟から発見されたスフール人は同じくルバロアゾ･ムスティエ文化をもちながら新人的旧人と見なされる点から，両人類の関係が発見当初から議論されてきた。
