A private mutual aid financial organization. Also called a raimo-ko. It is made up of promoters (parents) and fellow members (koshu), who contribute a set amount of money and goods called kakesen and kenmei, and lend the money and goods (toriashi) to one member of the group through a bid or lottery. Anyone who wins a toriashi will no longer have the right to win, and if all members win, the group will disband. It is thought to have appeared in the mid-Kamakura period, and originated from the provision of interest-free and unsecured loans to the poor. Later, interest was charged on collateral to prevent people from running away with the money, and the distinction from mujin became indistinguishable. Depending on the purpose, there are kin-raimo-ko and kin-ko, as well as ushi-raimo-ko and futon-raimo-ko, which purchase goods, kaya-ko, which share not only goods but also labor, miya-ko, which are for special donations, and gakko. → Related topics Kamo Uprising | Contract Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
