Born: October 3, 1865, Filottola, Ancona Died August 2, 1916. Rome. Italian Catholic politician. After the unification of Italy, the Pope prohibited Catholics from participating in central politics due to the conflict between the state and the church, but he revised this position and enthusiastically promoted Catholic participation in politics. In 1909, he became chairman of the Catholic Electoral Union, and in the general election of 1913, he cooperated with Prime Minister G. Giolitti by creating the so-called Gentiloni Pact, which established a deal between Catholics and liberals in electoral districts where the Socialist Party was expected to gain ground.
