An evergreen tree of the Rutaceae family, this small citrus fruit is native to Japan. It is also known as the "Ukon no Tachibana" at the Shishinden in Kyoto. It grows to around 3m tall. The branches have thorns, the leaves are small, and the flowers are white. The fruit is small and oblate, 2-2.5cm in diameter, weighs around 10g, and ripens to a yellow color. The skin is easy to peel, but the flesh is very sour and cannot be eaten raw. It contains 4-6 seeds.
