Their activities as a group began in December 1911, when Kandinsky, whose work was rejected at the third exhibition of the Association of New Artists in Munich, left the association along with Marc, Quin, and Gabriele Münter (1877-1962), and held an exhibition at the same gallery, sponsored by the editorial department of Blaue Reiter.
