Tajima Shrine

Located in Kabeshima, Yobuko Town, Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. The three deities enshrined are Tagorihime-no-mikoto, Ichikishima-hime-no-mikoto, and Tagitsu-hime-no-mikoto. The two deities enshrined in the side shrine are Oyamazumi-no-kami and Wakatake-o. Formerly a nationally-beloved medium-sized shrine. During the Engi system, it became the only famous shrine in Hizen Province, and Toyotomi Hideyoshi donated 100 koku of land to the shrine. During the Edo period, it became a place of prayer for the lord of Karatsu Domain. Kabeshima (also known as Himeshima) has been a key transportation point for the continent since ancient times, and the shrine building was built facing the northwest sea to protect the country. The annual festival is held on September 16th. The Himejima Dance of the Summer Festival on June 29th and 30th is famous. The sub-shrine Sayohime Shrine, which enshrines Sayohime, who is associated with the legend of her tragic love with Otomo no Satehiko, is known as the goddess of matchmaking.

佐賀県唐津(からつ)市呼子(よぶこ)町加部島(かべしま)に鎮座。祭神は田心姫命(たごりひめのみこと)、市杵島(いちきしま)姫命、湍津(たぎつ)姫命の3神。相殿(あいどの)には大山祇神(おおやまづみのかみ)、稚武王(わかたけおう)の2神を祀(まつ)る。旧国幣中社。延喜(えんぎ)の制では肥前(ひぜん)国唯一の名神(みょうじん)大社となり、豊臣(とよとみ)秀吉は社領100石を寄進、江戸時代には唐津(からつ)藩主の祈願所となった。加部島（別名姫島）は古くより大陸交通の要衝の地で、国土鎮護のため社殿は北西の海上に向かって建てられているという。例祭は9月16日。旧6月29、30日の夏越祭の姫島踊りは有名。大伴狭手彦(おおとものさてひこ)との悲恋伝説にちなむ佐与姫(さよひめ)を祀る末社佐与姫神社は縁結びの神として知られる。
