Tarzan

Tarzan

The protagonist created by American author Edgar Rice Burroughs in the adventure novel "Tarzan Saga". The first work, "Tarzan the Ape Man" (1914), is a total of 26 volumes. The British aristocrat Lord Greystoke and his wife are shipwrecked on the west coast of Africa while on their way to Africa, where they are stationed. They have a son, but the couple die. Their son (Tarzan) is raised by the female ape Kala and becomes the king of the jungle. He eventually comes into contact with an explorer from a civilized country, receives an education, learns his true identity, and enters the life of a British aristocrat before marrying an American girl named Jane. However, he dislikes the trappings of civilization and continues to live in the jungles of Africa. In the following, Tarzan's Africa is a fantastical continent dotted with indigenous barbarians, lost tribes originating from the continent of Atlantis, and civilized cities. His footsteps extend from Europe to the underground world of Pellucidar. The works are similar and repetitive, but there are relatively many works with a strong fantasy element.

movie

Tarzan's name became world famous when his stories were made into movies in Hollywood. The first was the silent film Tarzan (1918), in which the first actor to play Tarzan was Elmo Lincoln (1889-1952). In the 1930s, the sixth Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller (1907-1984), starred in 12 films, including Tarzan the Ape Man (1932), but all of these were action-packed adventures of Tarzan, king of the jungle, and his family, and bore no resemblance to the original novel. In 1983, British director Hugh Hudson made Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, a faithful adaptation of the first book, which brought renewed attention to the original novel.
