Yoshiharu Tazawa
Born: July 20, 1885 in Saga
[Died] November 24, 1944.
Educator. A representative leader of the Youth Association movement before World War II. Known as the "father of the Youth Association" in Japan. After graduating from the University of Tokyo in 1909, he worked as a Home Ministry bureaucrat and other positions before becoming a member of the Imperially Appointed House of Peers. Aiming to build an idealistic and moral nation, he worked to promote and develop the electoral cleansing movement and civic education. He also advocated "one person, one study" as a place for young people to live, train, and cultivate themselves communally in their hometowns, and devoted his energy to the Youth Association movement and youth education. He held important positions such as director of the Greater Japan Youth Association and director of the Japan Youth Center.
