Kasuga Style - Shunnichiryu

Japanese: 春日流 - しゅんにちりゅう

This is a style of Noh flute player. During the Edo period, it was affiliated with the Kanze school and was the leading flute player, but the line died out after World War II. The founder of the school, Asazawa Ichiuemon (1561-1617), was a former retainer of Matsunaga Danjo and a student of the master Higaimoto Hikobei (died 1527). The second generation of the school took the surname Kasuga. The musical structure of this school seems to be very close to that of the Morita school, but it had notable characteristics such as the use of high-pitched blowing to cover the musical phrases of the ji and dan in the Riyochukan style of dance, and the use of both the okuri flute and the chirase flute in the middle part.

能楽笛方の流儀の一つ。江戸時代は観世流の座付(所属)で笛方の筆頭流儀だったが，第2次世界大戦後芸系が絶えた。流祖浅沢市右衛門(1561‐1617)はもと松永弾正の家来で名人檜垣本（ひがいもと）彦兵衛(1527没)の弟子。2世から春日姓を名のっている。この流儀の音楽構造は森田流にたいへん近かったようだが，呂中干（りよちゆうかん）系の舞で地や段の楽句を高音からかぶせるように吹き出す点，中入（なかいり）で送リ笛と知ラセ笛を両方吹く点などに著しい特徴があった。
