There are known trees named "Nanjamonja trees" all over Japan. These do not refer to a specific species botanically, but are often given to rare tree species whose true identity is unclear in the region, such as camphor trees, katsura trees, Japanese laurel trees, and Japanese laurel trees. The most representative of these is the Japanese laurel tree. This tree is found isolated in Tsushima and the western part of the Chubu region, but trees planted in Tokyo during the Edo period became famous as Nanjamonja.
