Born in 1667. Son of Otawara Tsunakiyo, lord of Otawara Castle in Shimotsuke (Tochigi Prefecture). Served Toyotomi Hideyoshi and later Tokugawa Ieyasu, and in 1604 he was given an additional 4,500 koku of rice, becoming the first head of the Otawara clan to rule Otawara Domain. His stipend was 12,400 koku. He served as the guard of Sunpu Castle and Osaka Castle. He died on February 5, 1620, at the age of 65. His childhood name was Sahyoe, later Uhyoe no jo.
