The second son of Kitabatake Akiyoshi. He succeeded his father as governor of Ise Province and fought as a military commander on the side of the Southern Court, based in Tage Castle in Ise (Mie Prefecture). After the unification of the Northern and Southern Courts, he made peace with the shogunate. In 1399, he attacked Ouchi Yoshihiro, who had rebelled against the shogunate, at Sakai in Izumi (Osaka Prefecture), and was awarded half of the province of Iga (Mie Prefecture) and Koga County in Omi (Shiga Prefecture) for his achievements.
