Collection of Eight Generations

Japanese: 八代集 - はちだいしゅう

Of the 21 imperially commissioned anthologies of waka poetry, the first eight are the Kokinshu, Gosenshu, and Shuishu (these are the Three Daishu), Goshuishu, Kin'yōshu, Shikashu, Senzaishu, and Shin Kokinshu. These were produced when waka poetry was still in its heyday, and were highly valued as excellent works of art in later generations. Together with the later Thirteen Daishu, they are known as the Twenty-one Daishu.

勅撰和歌集21集のうち，最初の８集《古今和歌集》《後撰和歌集》《拾遺和歌集》（以上は三代集），《後拾遺和歌集》《金葉和歌集》《詞花和歌集》《千載和歌集》《新古今和歌集》。まだ歌道盛んなころのもので，作品としてもすぐれ後代に重んぜられた。のちの十三代集とあわせて二十一代集という。
