Lottery (takara-kuji)

Japanese: 宝くじ(宝籤) - たからくじ

A lottery ticket with prize money or prizes is sold based on the Prize Money Certificate Law (promulgated in 1948) and the Lottery Management Policy (notification from the Director-General of the Financial Bureau of the Ministry of Home Affairs in 1969). The official name is a prize money certificate.
【history】
The predecessor of the lottery was the Tomikuji lottery, which was popular during the Edo period, but was banned by the Meiji government in 1868 (Meiji 1). It was revived in July 1945 as Kachifuda, a winning ticket issued by the government based on the Temporary Fund Adjustment Law (promulgated in 1937) to raise military funds, but Japan was defeated in the war before the lottery could be drawn.

【歴史】
　宝くじの前身は江戸時代に盛んに行われた富くじであるが，1868年(明治1)に明治政府により禁止された。復活したのは1945年7月の勝札（かちふだ）である。これは，政府が軍事費調達のため臨時資金調整法(1937公布)に基づき発行したものであるが，抽選をまたずに敗戦となった。
