Wood carving - Mokkoku (English spelling) mù kè
In China, woodcarving refers to making angular cuts into a wooden slab in the shape of a knife, and woodblock prints made using this technique are called woodcarvings. The history of woodcarvings is very old, and as far as we know, it is believed to be a sermon illustration on the front page of the Diamond Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, printed in the 9th year of the Xiantong era (868) during the Tang dynasty, which was discovered in the Mogao Caves in Dunhuang by the British explorer MA Stein. The Tang dynasty was the heyday of Buddhism and Taoism, as well as the internationalism of China, and it was also a time when these two major religions flourished in the visual arts.
