Tagarasi (English spelling) Celery-leaved ache

Tagarasi (English spelling) Celery-leaved ache

A biennial plant of the Ranunculaceae (APG classification: Ranunculaceae). The stems are soft and shiny, and grow to 10-50 cm in height. The leaves are simple and deeply 3-lobed. In April and May, it produces sparse racemes and produces many yellow flowers about 1 cm in diameter. The petals are the same size as the sepals and are not very noticeable. The achene is swollen. It is similar to the foxglove (Umanoashigata) and the foxglove (Kekkitsune nobotan), which are also in the Ranunculaceae family, but this species can be easily distinguished by its cylindrical aggregate. It is a weed commonly found in wet marshes, and is widely distributed throughout Japan and the Northern Hemisphere. It is named after its pungent taste, which is caused by the poisonous protoanemonin.
