Takarai Bakin

A lecturer. The family name was Toryusai until the third generation. The father of the fourth generation was granted the surname Takai by Lord Matsuura and changed his name from Toryusai to Takai Kinryo, so the family name became Takai from the fourth generation.

The first (1801-1857) was born under the name of Yoshida Tsunekichi. He studied under Morikawa Bakoku the second. He read the characters in different voices, and attracted women and girls to lecture halls that had traditionally been dominated by men. He had 63 disciples, but he went to Osaka, where he trained another 36 disciples, before dying.

The second head priest's birth and death years are unknown. He was the husband of the first head priest's eldest daughter. He succeeded Kotonawara as the second head priest, but was unfortunate. There was a man in Osaka who called himself the second head priest, but he is not counted in the lineage.

The third generation 's birth and death years are unknown. He specialized in writing biographies of sumo wrestlers.

The 4th (1852-1928) was born Koganei Sanjiro. He changed his surname from Okada to Koganei Roshuu's will. He was the biological son of Takarai Kinryo the first, and was named Kokinryo. At the age of 17, he left his father and became a disciple of Nishio Rinkei the first, taking the name of Kinryo the second in 1880 (Meiji 13), and Bakin the fourth in 1898. He excelled in military chronicles, and was known for works such as "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" and "Seven Men of Kanto." He was a strong writer, and left behind "Kodankai Mukashibanashi." He was a leader in the world of kodansha in the Taisho period.

The 5th (1903-1985) was born in Aichi Prefecture and was a disciple of the 4th. He took the name of the 5th in 1933 (Showa 8). He was known for his clear reading style and was good at "Kan'ei Sanbajutsu".

The 6th (1935-2015), real name Yamanashi Tsutomu, was born in Shizuoka Prefecture. In 1959 (Showa 34), he entered the school of the previous master and took the name Kotocho. In 1966, he took on the stage name of the 4th Kinkaku, and in 1987, he took on the stage name of the 6th. He made an effort to popularize the Hiraba (battlefield) and worked to commemorate the 2nd Matsubayashi Hakuen, and was the central figure in organizing the Hakuen memorial service.

講釈師。3代まで東流斎(とうりゅうさい)。4代の父が松浦侯から宝井の姓を許され、東流斎改め宝井琴凌(きんりょう)を名のったため、4代から宝井となる。

初代(1801―1857)本名吉田常吉。2代森川馬谷(ばこく)に師事。登場人物の音声を変えて読み、従来男性中心の講釈場に婦女子を集めた。門弟63人に及んだが、大坂に上ってさらに36人の門弟を育て、客死。

2代生没年、伝未詳。初代の長女の婿。琴調より2代目を襲ったが不遇。なお大阪に2代目を自称する者がいたが、代数には数えない。

3代生没年、伝未詳。力士伝を得意とした。

4代(1852―1928)本名小金井三次郎。岡田姓を初代小金井芦洲(ろしゅう)の遺言により改める。初代宝井琴凌の実子で小琴凌。17歳で父に別れ、初代西尾麟慶(りんけい)の門に入り、1880年(明治13)2代琴凌、1898年4代馬琴を襲名。軍記物を得意とし、『三国志』『関東七人男』などで評判をとる。強記で『講談界昔話』を残す。大正期釈界の指導者。

5代(1903―1985)本名大岩喜三郎。愛知県生まれ。4代目の弟子。1933年(昭和8)5代目を襲名。明瞭(めいりょう)な読み口で、『寛永三馬術(かんえいさんばじゅつ)』などを得意とした。

6代(1935―2015)本名山梨務。静岡県出身。1959年(昭和34)先代の門に入り、琴調となる。1966年4代琴鶴(きんかく)を襲名、1987年6代目を襲名。修羅場(ひらば)の普及に尽力し、2代松林伯円の顕彰につとめ、伯円忌を中心となって営んだ。
