…Even the buildings of Edo Castle, the residence of the shogun, such as Honmaru, Nishimaru, and Ninomaru, were divided into an outer and inner section, and the inner section of Edo Castle was called Ooku to distinguish it from other feudal lords. Ooku was divided into three sections: Goten-mukai, Ohiroshiki-mukai, and Nagatsubo-mukai. Goten-mukai was where the master of the Ooku, that is, the Midori-kocho in Honmaru, the Oomi-kocho or the wife of the Shogun's heir, and their children lived; Ohiroshiki-mukai was the Ooku management office, where the male Ohiroshiki officials worked; and Nagatsubo-mukai was where the maids who worked in the Ooku, the so-called Ooku maids, lived. … From [Ohiroshikiban]...A title of a job in the Edo Shogunate. Among the officials in charge of managing and guarding the Ooku, this official was primarily a guard. The person in charge was the head clerk, who was in charge of the caretaker's residence.
