A knight during the German Reformation. Born in Jagdhausen Castle in Württemberg. At a young age, he organized a band of bandit knights, who attacked merchants in various places, intervened in disputes between feudal nobles, and imprisoned lords for ransom. When the Peasants' War broke out in 1524, he joined the Odenwald peasant group and was promoted to its leader, but secretly escaped on the eve of the decisive battle at Königshofen at the end of May. He was imprisoned in Augsburg from 1528 to 1530 for his participation in the peasant group, but after his release, he participated in battles against the Turkish and French armies and died in Hornberg Castle. Goethe's historical drama "Götz von Berlichingen" (1773) vividly portrays him as a free-spirited, lawless man.
