…In the second half of the 9th century, people other than the Fumyo clan began to be appointed to the Tonobu. Before the Ritsuryo system, the Kurumamochi clan, a branch of the Kamitsukenu clan, served in the ceremonial preparation of the Emperor's carriages, the Kasatori clan served in the raising of the lid during imperial journeys, and the Hioki clan served in the provision of lamps and other items. The Kamo clan was the governor of Kadono in Yamashiro (Kamo no Kuni no Kami), and the Shimogamo Genealogy records that Hisajiyoshi served in the Tonobu (Denryo) during the reigns of Jomei and Kogyoku, and that many served in the Suibu (Mizubu) of the Suibu (Mizubu). …
