?‐1119 A Taoist priest from the end of the Northern Song Dynasty in China. His pen name was Tongsou, and his real name was Ling'ga. He was from Yongjia, Wenzhou (Zhejiang Province). He started out as a monk, but could not bear the rigors of the training and turned to Taoism. He gained the trust of Emperor Huizong, who was devoted to Taoism, and was always his close aide. It was at his urging that Huizong began to refer to himself as the Taoist Emperor, built Taoist temples all over the country, and gave preferential treatment to Taoist priests. However, Lin Lingsu became too dependent on his trust and began to behave in an tyrannical manner, which angered Huizong, who banished him to his hometown and later exiled him to Chuzhou (Huaian County, Anhui Province) where he died.
