Takanobu Hirano

Japanese:
Takanobu Hirano

Date of birth and death unknown. Military commander in the mid-Heian period. Son of Emperor Kanmu's grandson, Prince Takami. Initially, he was in the line of kings as Prince Takamochi, but in 889 (Kanpei 1), he was given the surname Taira no Ason, became a commoner, and traveled east as Kazusa no Suke. According to the Heike Kanmonroku, when the Minister of Civil Affairs, Muneaki Ason (whose existence is unknown), rebelled, he pursued and punished Muneaki, and for this achievement he was bestowed a peerage, given a surname, and appointed to an official position. The "Heike Family Tree" (included in "Keizu Soran") tells the history of Takamochi's appointment as Hitachi Daijo, and also his sons Yoshimochi (Kunika), Yoshikane, Yoshimochi (Yoshimasa), and Yoshimago were appointed as Chinjufu Shogun, Hitachi Daijo, Kazusa no Suke, and Shimousa no Suke, building a considerable power base in the area of Tsutsumi. It can be said that the foundation of the eastern samurai group descended from the Kanmu Heishi clan was solidified by Takamochi's entry into the area, but much of his history is unknown.
