Japanese: 平高棟 - たいらのたかむね

804－867 A court noble in the early Heian period.
Born in the 23rd year of Enryaku. The first son of Prince Kazurahara. In the 2nd year of Tencho, he was given the surname Taira and became a commoner. Later he was made Shosanmi and Dainagon. Many of his descendants served the Imperial Court as civil servants, and are therefore known as the Courtier Taira (Doujou Taira) in contrast to the line of his younger brother Prince Takami, who settled in the provinces as a military officer. He died on May 19, 9th year of Jogan. He was 64 years old.

延暦(えんりゃく)23年生まれ。葛原(かずらはら)親王の第1王子。天長2年平姓をあたえられ,臣籍にくだる。のち正三位,大納言。その子孫のおおくは文官として朝廷につかえたため,武官として地方に土着した弟高見王の系統に対して,公家平氏(堂上平氏)と称される。貞観(じょうがん)9年5月19日死去。64歳。
