Born in the 23rd year of Enryaku. The first son of Prince Kazurahara. In the 2nd year of Tencho, he was given the surname Taira and became a commoner. Later he was made Shosanmi and Dainagon. Many of his descendants served the Imperial Court as civil servants, and are therefore known as the Courtier Taira (Doujou Taira) in contrast to the line of his younger brother Prince Takami, who settled in the provinces as a military officer.
