...In the Tohoku region, a Bonten dedication festival is held in which large Bonten are made and dedicated to shrines. At Asahiokayama Shrine in Yokote City, Akita Prefecture (February 17th), and Taiheiyama Miyoshi Shrine in Akanuma, Akita City (February 17th), each Bonten competes with each other when they reach the stone steps in front of the shrine, and it is said that the first person to donate a Bonten will be blessed with good fortune for the year.
