...A general term for marine fishes belonging to the genus Auxis, family Scombridae, order Perciformes. There are two species in the waters off Japan: Auxis rochei (illustration) and A. thazard (illustration). Both species are widely distributed in temperate and tropical waters around the world with water temperatures of 12°C or higher, and live not only in coastal areas but also in offshore areas.
