Abomasal displacements

Abomasal displacements
In normal cows, the abomasum, located in the midline or right lower abdomen, twists to the left or right rib or to the right, causing symptoms such as lack of appetite, reduced milk production, and ketosis. Ruminants have four stomachs, the fourth of which functions similarly to the stomach of a monogastric animal. Cows that produce large amounts of milk meet their energy needs with large amounts of grain, and in this case the amount of low-molecular-weight fatty acids produced in the first stomach increases, which can result in the abomasum becoming relaxed and displaced.
