Five Nunneries - Amadera Gosan
〘Noun〙 During the Muromachi period, this was a name given to five nunneries in Kyoto, modelled on the Five Mountains of Zen Buddhism. The five were Keiai-ji, Tsugen-ji, Danrin-ji, Gonen-ji and Erin-ji. Similarly, five temples were selected in Kamakura: Taihei-ji, Tokei-ji, Kokuon-ji, Goho-ji and Zenmyo-ji. Five Nunneries.
