An organization promoting the revival of Buddhism in India. It was founded in 1890 by the Ceylonese Dharmapala in Bodh Gaya, the place where the Buddha attained enlightenment. It has gradually gained influence by linking itself with the movement to abolish caste. Although it does not have many followers, the general Indian public considers Buddhism to be a branch of Hinduism, and the Indian government openly sponsors major events.
