Located in Musan-eup, Musan-gun, North Hamgyong-do, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, on the bank of the upper reaches of the Tumen River, this is one of the most representative prehistoric sites in the northeastern part of the Korean Peninsula. Excavations were carried out from 1959 to 1961, and within an area of 1,380 m2, 51 pit dwellings dating from the Comb-patterned Pottery (Neolithic) period to the Proto-Three Kingdoms period (early Iron Age) and two box-type stone coffin tombs from the Plain Pottery period were discovered. The dwellings can be divided into six periods based on their structure and artifacts. Period I belongs to the end of the Comb-patterned Pottery period, and all of the 10 dwellings discovered were small, square or rectangular, and comb-patterned pottery, stone tools, and bone tools were excavated.
