Taichung - Taichung

Japanese: 台中 - たいちゅう
Taichung - Taichung

A city in the mid-west of Taiwan. Located in the center of the Taichung Basin. Population 965,790 (2000). Formerly known as Dadun (Tun). Taiwan County was established in 1887, and renamed Taichung in 1896 after it became a Japanese territory. The climate is warm, with an average annual temperature of 22°C, and the temperature difference between summer and winter is only 10°C, making it a place of perpetual spring. The city is neat and tidy like a lattice, with the Lu River and Yan River flowing through it. There are three comprehensive universities, three single-discipline universities, and seven junior colleges, making it a tranquil cultural city. The Taiwan Provincial Advisory Council is located in Wufeng, 10 kilometers southeast of the city, and the Taiwan Provincial Government is located in Zhongxingxincun, 23 kilometers away, so it is adjacent to the center of provincial administration. The famous tourist spot Sun Moon Lake is also located 80 kilometers southeast in the mountains. The surrounding rural areas are rich, producing rice, sugar cane, bananas, pineapples, and citrus fruits. In recent years, commercial and industrial development has been remarkable, with the opening of the Taichung Export Processing Zone in Tanzi, a northern suburb, and the completion of the Taichung (International) Port in Wuqi, 20 kilometers to the west, and Taichung is transforming into an industrial city.
