In her critique, “Contemporary Questions” (1883), she introduced Zola's theory of fiction, and her masterpiece, “Hôtel de Uryoa” (1886), which put this theory into practice, depicts the decadence of a rural aristocracy against the backdrop of a changing society. In addition to her 40-year career as a writer, her fame was also due to her being the first woman to become a full professor at a university. …
