The third newcomer

Japanese:
The third newcomer

This refers to writers who became literary writers in the late 1940s and after, such as Yasuoka Shotaro, Yoshiyuki Junnosuke, Kojima Nobuo, Shono Junzo, Onuma Tan, Sono Ayako, Miura Shumon, and Endo Shusaku. These writers follow the first postwar generation (Hirano Ken, Haniya Yutaka, Noma Hiroshi, etc.) and the second postwar generation (Nakamura Shinichiro, Fukunaga Takehiko, Kato Shuichi, etc.), and this term comes from Yamamoto Kenkichi's critique "The Third New Writer" (Bungakukai, January 1953). Critic Hattori Tatsu pointed out that the commonalities between these writers were "spending their youth during the war," "joining the current of a return to the tradition of autobiographical novels," and "metaphorically corresponding to the economic recovery brought about by the special demand following the Korean War" ("Underachieving Students, Slightly Disabled People, and Citizens: From the Third New Writer to the Fourth New Writer", Bungakukai, September 1955), demonstrating a contemporary understanding.
