A comprehensive administrative code from the Ming and Qing dynasties of China. Chinese legal codes can be broadly divided into two categories: criminal codes and administrative codes. The criminal code is called the "Li", and the administrative codes are called the "Ling" and the "Huiden" (including the "Liutian"). The "Liutian", compiled during the Kaiyuan period of the Tang dynasty (713-741), was a collection of laws (ritual code formats and imperial edicts) related to each government agency, and was listed under the six departments of personnel affairs, household affairs, ceremonies, military affairs, criminal affairs, and work. This format was inherited to some extent by the Song and Yuan dynasties, and became the "Huiden" during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
