Mount Kumotori

A mountain that stands on the border of Tokyo, Saitama, and Yamanashi prefectures. It is 2,017 meters above sea level. It is the highest point in the innermost part of Tokyo. This mountain, along with Mt. Shiraiwa and Mt. Myoho-ga-take, are also called Mt. Mitsumine, and are made up of the strata of the Otaki Group from the Mesozoic era. It belongs to Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park, and has a good view from the summit. The most well-known hiking trail starts at Mitsumine Shrine on the Chichibu side of Saitama prefecture, passes through the Mimine Kumotori Nature Study Trail, and leads from the summit to Okutama-cho, Tokyo. There is also a traverse course that runs west from the summit of Mt. Kumotori, over the mountains to Mt. Kobushi-ga-take.

東京、埼玉、山梨の3都県境にそびえる山。標高2017メートル。東京都の最奥で最高の地点である。この山と白岩山(しらいわやま)、妙法ヶ岳(みょうほうがたけ)の3山で三峰山(みつみねさん)ともいい、中生代の大滝層群の地層からなる。秩父多摩甲斐(ちちぶたまかい)国立公園に属し、頂上は展望がよい。登山道は埼玉県秩父側の三峯神社に始まり、三峰雲取自然研究路を経て頂上から東京都奥多摩町に至るものが、もっとも代表的。このほか、雲取山頂から西方に山々を越えて甲武信ヶ岳(こぶしがたけ)に至る縦走コースもある。
